My own journey began at age five with the classic game of Chess. From there, I moved on to Monopoly, Scrabble, Battleship, Risk, and all the usual classics. I loved playing, but eventually those games started to feel a bit stale. Everything changed when I discovered Settlers of Catan (now Catan). Suddenly, trading sheep for lumber and racing to build the longest road pulled everyone—family and friends alike—into a whole new world of gaming.
After hundreds of plays, I ventured into a local board game store and was overwhelmed by the sheer number of options. I bought a game… which then sat on my shelf for two years. Later, I played Azul at a friend’s house and was reminded how fun and quick modern games can be. That finally motivated me to unbox the game gathering dust—only to learn it was a 3-hour strategy beast (Terra Mystica).
Since then, I’ve researched, purchased, played, and tested countless games. Through trial, error, and plenty of game nights, I’ve put together lists of the games with the highest success rates—so YOU can start with the right game for the right crowd.
